MeatBalls was an Australian tongue in cheek tribute to Meat Loaf. Singer Michael-John Hurney explained it himself in the (now disabled) comments of my weblog:

I was fondly nicknamed ‘The Fatman’ throughout most of the 1990’s. The MeatBalls – Fat out of Hell concept show WAS a tongue-in-cheek concert as I used to wear a special efx look-a-like latex mask and body suit, which at around 50 degrees was really tough for the 2 hour show we used to present. The Fatman also performed a load of comic material that was not allowed to be included on the CD for copyright reasons, so the Album fell a little short of what we used to present in the venues. But musically speaking stayed very true to the original album. Looking back it was probably the best time of my life as I got to perform with some of the most amazing singers, worked with such talented musicians and professional production crew, and met so many awesome people and lovers of Jim Steinman’s epic music. I also had the great privilege to meet and interview Meat Loaf in 1993. We were asked by Virgin EMI to help promote the Bat out of Hell II – Back into Hell CD Album around Australia, and ironically ended up with our own MeatBalls CD. A warts’n all ‘live’ album recorded at The Footbridge Theatre, Sydney.

The album features an enjoyable take on most of Bat Out of Hell, some food-related ad-libbing (…some days I just pray to the god of pasties, pies and sausage rolls…) and some farting-related humor, the latter two of which I could have done without.
