The Shuttered Palace

To the sons of Europe:
Won’t you come inside my shuttered palace, and I am the bride
Now I’m a woman, I walk past your café
To the sons of Europe, I call out and say

Now as I stroll down your boulevard
You hear those Fiats, and taxis, blow their horns so hard
When I go out walking flocks of birds rise from the square
And all the seigneurs and monsieurs pull up to the curb

To the sons of Europe:
Won’t you come inside my shuttered palace, and I am the bride
Now I’m a woman, I walk past your café
To the sons of Europe, I call out and say

Je serai a votre mariage
Je suis femme …

Aaaah

To the sons of Europe:
Won’t you come inside my shuttered palace, and I am the bride
Now I’m a woman, I walk past your café
To the sons of Europe, I call out and say

My shuttered palace lies away from the sun
It isn’t far there, a little further, so why don’t you come?
You call out your offers to me in your mother tongue
But you don’t act so macho when I ask you to come

Aaaah

To the sons of Europe:
Won’t you come inside my shuttered palace and I am the bride
Now I’m a woman, I walk past your café
To the sons of Europe, I call out and say

To the sons of Europe:
Won’t you come inside my shuttered palace and I am the bride
Now I’m a woman, I walk past your café
To the sons of Europe, I call out and say....

Torchlight

Boy: Huh, the walls may crumble
Girl: Our hearts will not shatter
Boy: Like so many old buildings
Girl: Burnt down to the ground

Both: Nevermind my friend, we’ll go on tonight
We could see through the dark by torchlight

Boy: I never once want to give it
Girl: Even when times were bad
Boy: No one can break my spirit
Girl: Or take away the hope you have

Both: But nevermind my friend, you’ll have me tonight
We could see through the dark by torchlight....

Aaaaah

Boy: Nothing is forever
Girl: Time is just a flake
Boy: But I know together
Girl: Our fire will remain

Both: Nevermind my friend, we’ll go on tonight
We could see through the dark by torchlight

Nevermind my friend, we got lost tonight
We could see through the dark by torchlight....

Beautiful Waste of Time

Blue dirty sky blinks tonight
[And] Mother Earth’s sails blowing
All the times you try to use it
All the times you’ve tried to refuse it
She always lets you know

It’s just a beautiful waste of time
I don’t know why but you can waste mine
It’s just a beautiful nowhere to go
But that’s alright as long as I know
It’s just a beautiful nowhere to go

Over by a tree and lake
Somewhere between give and take
There’s a place I couldn’t kid it
A place I’d never hid it
Where nothing goes to fake

It’s just a beautiful waste of time
I don’t know why but you can waste mine
It’s just a beautiful nowhere to be
But that’s alright as long as I’m free
It’s just a beautiful nowhere to be....

Brown leaves lick a cloudy sky
Daddy’s gray as thunders grow
Mother holds the silver needle rain
Yields another spring again
She always let’s love go

It’s just a beautiful waste of time
I don’t know why but you can waste mine
It’s just a beautiful nowhere to be
But that’s alright as long as I see
It’s just a beautiful nowhere to be....

It’s just a beautiful waste of time....

The Death of the Psychoanalyst of Salvador Dali

Your dreams breathed beads of sweat
The world was not right
The suburbs awoke to a locust attack
The tribes of the Amazon halted
They threw all their irons in the fire

Department stores burned all afternoon
The gigelos cried
The filmstars fled from the script and the set
Widows and dogs searched the streets for each other
Strippers were fighting for prams in the park

The network broke
The music at midnight
To announce
The death of the psychoanalyst of Salvador Dali

The baker lite tune reached a faboulous price
The Titanic’s band played
Columns of smoke hung words in the air
All the kitchen knives were bought from the shops
Some police men were begging for soup at the jail

Poker dice games make the factory still
Foghorns called names
Gene Vincent’s cufflinks rusted in the shirt
Priests married themselves using bibles and mirrors
In China all the bicycle chains snapped at once

And the mad world broke
The music at midnight
To announce
The death of the psychoanalyst of Salvador Dali....

More miles per hour
More miles per minute
There ain’t no speed trap
And there ain’t no radar limit

I’m drivin’, I won’t be back
Drivin’, now look me go
Where the sounds lead
[Linin’] next door
I’ll commit your face into my memory
If I can’t fly

Oh, drivin’ the frozen path
Drivin’ the razor back
[…]
Without no different […]
When it’s time to go
It’s not what you got to know
But when you got to go

Drivin’
More miles per hour
More miles per minute
There ain’t no speed trap
There ain’t no radar limit …

More miles per hour
More miles per minute
There ain’t no speed trap
There ain’t no radar limit

I’m drivin’ in my motor heap
Drivin’ away from sleep
And I ain’t down
How many times I’ve seen
Feel the breath of night
Almost need to see
If I keep the road all night
That’s where I gonna be

More miles per hour
Yes, more miles per minute
There ain’t no speed trap
There ain’t no radar limit

Next time I’ll feel
Dead man’s curve, except
Gonna keep right on
I’m not your kind of exit

More miles per hour
More miles per minute
There ain’t no speed trap, and
There ain’t no radar limit

Next time I’ll feel
Dead man’s curve, except
Gonna keep right on
I’m not your kind of exit

More miles per hour
More miles per minute
There ain’t no speed trap
There ain’t no radar limit

Next time I’ll feel
Dead man’s curve, except
Gonna keep right on
I’m not your kind of exit

More miles per hour
More miles per minute
There ain’t no speed trap
There ain’t no radar limit

Next time I’ll feel
Dead man’s curve, except
Gonna keep right on
I’m not your kind of exit …

My Legionnaire

He had the brightest color eyes
And they would flash from time to time
Like lightning ‘cross the stormy skies
He was covered with tattoos that I never understood
On his neck: Unknown, still free
On his heart: No one
His right arm read: Reason

I don’t know his name or who he was
Just as he loved me through the night – my legionnaire!
And so he left me to my fate
And so he left my door with morning light

He was slim and he was handsome
And he smelled like desert sand – my legionnaire!
The sun so bright up in the sky
Lighting up the blondness of his hair

Lost hapiness that’s run away
Now I’m thinking of that night
And now desire drives me mad
Sometimes I cry, and then I knew
That when I lay against his heart
I should have shouted all my joy
But I never said a word
I was afraid to see him smile!

They found him in the desert sand
The brightest eyes were open wide
A cloud ran across the sky
Bearing his tattoos they read
And a smile upon those lips that said
With his neck: Unknown, still free
On his heart: No one
His right arm said one word: Reason

And so I dream that destiny
Will someday bring him back to me – my legionnaire!
Then we will travel past the sea
And find a land so full of life, so far away

He was slim and he was handsome
Now he’s he’s burried in the desert sand – my legionnaire!
The sun so bright up in the sky
Lighting up the blondness of his hair....

Theatre of Cruelty

It’s wide and green in my living room so steamy
Held in a captive swirl and a coctail of I’m dreaming
What man would know, what man could tell that I’m dreaming?
I see nothing fine at the end of the line, am I dreaming?

Fingers to the bone for the sake of the home of the wind blows it all away
Beauty in shrouds like fast moving clouds
I live my time in a Theatre of Cruelty

So I relax and unwind and I spend my time so easy
Leave my old man at home to spin all alone, it’s easy
Mix another one… to go with the other one
Drop another one… to go with the other one

Fingers to the bone for the sake of the home of the wind blows it all away
Beauty in shrouds like fast moving clouds
I live my time in a Theatre of Cruelty....

What man would know, what man could tell, I am dreaming?
Any woman would know, any woman could tell, what I am dreaming....

Dreaming
What I’m dreaming
Dreaming
What I’m dreaming
Dreaming (what I’m dreaming)
Dreaming (what I’m dreaming) ....

How Glad I Am

My love has no beginning, my love has no end
No front or back, my love won’t bend
I’m in the middle, lost in a spin
Loving you
And you don’t know, you don’t know, you don’t know, you don’t know
How glad I am

My love has no bottom, my love has no top
My love won’t rise, and my love won’t drop
I’m in the middle, and I can’t stop
Loving you
And you don’t know, you don’t know, you don’t know, you don’t know
How glad I am

I wish I was a poet, so that I could express
Just what I want to say
I wish I was an artist, so that I could paint a picture
Of what I see and what I feel today

My love has no walls on either side
That makes my love whiter than white
I’m in the middle, no, and I can’t hide
My love for you
And you don’t know, you don’t know, you don’t know, you don’t know
How glad I am
And you don’t know, you don’t know, you don’t know, you don’t know
Just how glad I am
Lalala lalala…
How glad I am.....

Phases of Travel

I have no fear of flying
It’s only fear of dying
It’s bein’ surround, yet feeling alone
Clutch your heart and watch real closely
I go a long way to make something out of nothing
Possession is more that I dare claim

But I never wanted to
Be without mine
I trust to fly
I had to get to you

Crossing over the ocean
There’s jetlag, my emotion
But there’s no way drive
I left your heart behind
Waking up to look out of strange windows
They pay good money to play with my handcuffs
Love’s labour lost is more that I can bear

And I never wanted to
Whenever I find
A moment of time
I always think of you

I say a prayer for you
I had to get to

We meet over the wire
We never lose our fire
Just remember how things were before
I was gonna do this, I was gonna do that
Seventy-four hours, thinkin bout nothin’
I sit in my chair, I should have left before

But I never wanted to…
I had to get to you…
I say a prayer for you…
I had to get to you…
I say a prayer for you....

Game of a Man

She sat in her room
Alone in the murk
It’s time to admit it:
Just doesn’t work

It’s the game of a man
To take what he can
It’s the game of a man
To take all he can

She curled to her fire
The passion of mice
And the memory faded
In cooler than ice, cooler than ice

She threw out her war paint
And her birth control pills
She’s not gonna pick up
Emotional bills

It’s the game of a man
To take what he can
It’s the game of a man
To take all he can....

She threw out her records
Of the rock and roll freight
Said it’s too many years now
We’ve been losing this game

It’s the hands of a man
Take what he can
It’s the game of a man
To take all he can....

Don’t go....

Indestructible

Here I am, trying again
Afraid you won’t hear me
Here I am, standing alone
Afraid I’m in vain

Oh, how indestructible you will be
Destructible through time
Show me, I’ll be indestructible too

Building a railroad, building a train
From some borrowed magic
Down tools, cutting the pain, oh
I can’t work that way

Oh, how indestructible you will be
Destructible through time
Show me, I’ll be indestructible too

Oh, let wind blow through me
Red lights will renew me
Over and over and over and over
Over and over and over

Oh, how indestructible you will be
Destructible through time
Show me, I’ll be indestructible too....

Oh, how indestructible you will be
Destructible through time
Show me, I’ll be indestructible too....

In the Killing Hour

Why do these bars keep us apart?
You know I’ll never cry, tears in my heart
I bear your son, he’ll live to tell
Just how his father died in the killing cell

He will grow strong to prove your innocence
I will not hear you say that there is no innocence
Oh, please don’t go, where is God now?
Won’t someone save us now, in the killing hour

There must be more, some life to come
Over on the other side, wait for your woman and son
It must be soon, the jailers come
But all the people know, you’re not the guilty one....

Oh, please don’t go, where is God now?
Won’t someone save us now, in the killing hour

Oh, please don’t go
Where is God now?
Won’t someone save us now
In the killing hour....

The Time Is Now (Ellen Foley with Jimmy Hall, featuring the Children of the World)

Girl: The time is here, the time is now
The time for all mankind
To join together hand in hand
And leave our fear behind

Girl: Like the rock of ages stands
Raise your voices loud
Spread the word, let it be heard
High above the ground

Till the end it must be voiced
One and all for one

Girl: Every father’s daughter
And every mother’s son

Boy:
Time is here, the time is now
The time for all mankind
To join together hand in hand
And leave our fear behind....

Boy:Till the end it must be voiced
Both:One and all for one
Boy:Every father’s daughter
Both:And every mother’s son

Both: Time is here, the time is now
The time for all mankind
To join together hands for peace
And leave the wars behind

Girl: The time is here
The time is now....
