Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jim Steinman’s new musical Whistle Down the Wind opens in the Aldwych Theatre in London’s West End on 1st July. However, you don’t have to wait until then to see why people are already predicting that Whistle Down the Wind will be the musical event of 1998. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s stunning new score ranges from hauntingly beautiful love songs through to explosive rock music. An astonishing range of some of the world’s favourite pop stars have come together to record songs from the show. This exclusive CD features tracks by Tina Arena, Boyzone and Tom Jones. Lyricist Jim Steinman is probably best known for the legendary album Bat Out of Hell; Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse of the Heart and, most recently, Celine Dion’s hit single It’s All Coming Back To Me Now.

Based on the much loved film, Whistle Down the Wind is set in America’s deep South in the late fifties. A young girl, Swallow, struggling to come to terms with the death of her mother, discovers a mysterious stranger who she believes is Jesus. In a town where a miracle is long overdue, the children fight to protect the stranger from an adult world determined to catch the fugitive hiding in their midst. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s powerful music combines with lyrics by acclaimed rock‘n’roll songwriter Jim Steinman. They fuse epic storytelling with intimate emotion as the innocence of children colide with the cynical adult world.
